Approach

A defining characteristic of Sareq is our close partnership with our portfolio companies. While board meetings are of great importance, we believe the real value is created in close cooperation with our entrepreneurs and portfolio company management teams, where we have clearly identified who does what and how it contributes to the big picture. We are more than willing to roll up our sleeves and support projects where our portfolio companies look for our assistance. Occasionally, we even step in as interim leaders while waiting for a key recruitment to be finalized.

Examples of areas where we provide support include product development, profitability analysis and pricing, purchasing, factory establishments, system implementations, key recruitments and add-on acquisitions.

Entrepreneurship

To us, it is key to maintain and foster entrepreneurship in our portfolio companies. We achieve this through a decentralized governance model where our companies are independently led by their management teams, ensuring that important business decisions are made as close to the customer as possible. Furthermore, we contribute with our knowledge and skills in business development, project management, and managing organizational change.

Long-term Perspective

We have a long-term ownership perspective since we know from experience that developing companies in a sustainable and profitable way takes time. We are convinced that co-ownership together with our entrepreneurs and portfolio management teams fosters strong shared incentives, which are essential for achieving success.

The idea

The idea behind Sareq was developed by Bengt-Olov Forssell, one of the founders of Rusta, together with Erik Westling and Mikael Norbäck in the fall of 2017. Bengt-Olov was passionate about entrepreneurship, and the concept of Sareq was to invest in companies with the ambition to foster their continued development and growth. With long-term goals and a strong majority owner, we create an environment where the best interests of the companies come first – all in the spirit of Bengt-Olov!

The beginning

In the beginning of 2018 Sareq moved into its first unassuming office on top of a gas station in Lidingö and where 80% of the investment capital came from Bengt-Olov and the rest from Erik and Mikael. Shortly after the start, Joakim Orreteg, our current CFO, joined the team.

Sareq's first investment was made in Nitton93, which to date has more than tripled in size under Sareq's ownership, and which paved the way for other successful investments in companies such as BATAB, Pontech, and Better Hockey.

Unfortunately, Bengt-Olov passed away in the spring of 2019 after a period of illness. His knowledge and drive are irreplaceable, but Sareq continues with the Forssell family as an engaged and financially strong majority owner and with the same goals and vision – to promote entrepreneurship and business.

The growth

During 2023 Sareq grew further when majority investments were made in MaskinSystem and Langia. In addition, the team was expanded and Joachim Palmé was recruited as external CEO to lead Sareq towards an IPO.

At the end of 2024 Sareq consisted of ten portfolio companies with combined revenues of SEK1.3 billion and more than 300 employees in the group.

Today and looking forward

Our business idea to be an investment partner to entrepreneurs in profitable and market-leading Nordic niche companies and with an evergreen investment horizon remains unchanged since the beginning.

It is with equal parts reassurance and humility we now embrace the future.

The team

Our team members typically bring experience from top-tier consulting firms, investment firms, and/or industry. Several of us have been entrepreneurs before joining or starting Sareq. While we have a solid understanding of economics and finance, what truly energizes us is business and operations of our portfolio companies. That is why we devote the majority of our time at our portfolio companies and meeting with entrepreneurs.

Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Sareq, and we believe it is crucial for long-term competitiveness. When assessing new investments, we prioritize sustainability, which is why many of our portfolio companies have it integrated into their core business strategies. We take a proactive, systematic approach to setting sustainability goals for Sareq and our subsidiaries by identifying impactful measures, and tracking outcomes.
